Former bank clerk nabbed on allegations he took B26m from bank accounts

August 15

To prove to many of our online casinos players just how harmful a gambling addiction can become, we dedicate this article as a fine example.

In Thailand, a 40 year-old man that has been on the run since October 2004 for depleting an astounding 26 million baht (local currency) from 2 of his former employer's customer accounts, has be apprehended. Yesterday in Chiang Rai, the approximate 10 month hunt for Anan (Pae) Tananyutthawong came to an end.

The former Kasikornbank employee is accused of taking the money from two different fixed deposit accounts. The accounts involved were said to belong to customers that did not regularly check account levels in the past. The employee was aware of this and took the money figuring the customers would not know - at least any time soon. Apparently, he was taking the money to cover mounting gambling debts stemming from an addiction. It is being reported that he was betting on sporting events - mainly soccer, sometime 10 thousand baht at a time. After losing a substantial amount of money, he turned to theft to cover past debts.

Working at the bank's Phahon Yothin branch, he depleted the accounts over a 5 year period before the bank realized that the two accounts were missing money. Shortly there after an investigation took place, with Mr. Anan fleeing before a formal police report could have him arrested. It is said that he was hiding - from authories near gambling and casino facilities were he continued to feed his addiction.

Unable to pay his weekly gambling debts, which were being reported to be as high as ten thousand baht a week, he made the biggest mistake of his life by turning to crime. Allegedly, he forged the customer's signatures to withdraw up to 900,000 baht at a time.
