Mobile phone gambling on the rise

In the United Kingdom, a local newspaper by the name of  the UK Independent is reporting that mobile phone gambling is on the rise and gaining popularity throughout the country.

With the high number of wagering pages that are downloaded being expected to approach 3 million by the end of 2005, a 367% raise from last year is expected.

Preliminary research by Mintel has caused concern that the nearly unlimited access to mobile phone gambling will create a rise in addiction in the UK. Not so, say responsible online casino and land casino gamers, who have been wagering online and off line for many years. Even if mobile phone gambling was eradicated, thousands and thousands of people can wager at online casinos or land casino for that matter.

As it stands, ring tones for phones account for a third of downloads. Games are also popular, as are screensavers and wallpaper, and even music. By far, the largest growth area in mobile phone downloads has been in gambling. Gambling now accounts for 9% cent of all new cell phone downloads.

With the major online casino gambling industry growing and growing, it comes as no shock that mobile gaming will take-off too.
